SO WHAT'S THE SCENARIO?: A win by either Indiana or Purdue will give them the No. 3 seed in the Big Ten Tournament ... a tie, coupled with a Michigan win over Michgan State, would push the Wolverines into third ... it's also possible for Northwestern to jump ahead of IU in the standings based on the Wildcats head-to-head win at Bloomington ... Purdue cannot place lower than fifth in the Big Ten thanks to its win over NU.
BUT SERIES-LY...: Purdue leads the all-time series against Indiana, 7-1-1, having not lost to the Hoosiers since 1999 ... the two teams tied 1-1 last year in Bloomington thanks to Lauren Mason's penalty kick save in the closing seconds of the final overtime ... every match, including two in the postseason, has been decided by one goal ... and only once has one of the teams scored two or more goals ... in 2003, Purdue beat IU on the road 2-1 ... three matches have been decided in OT.
ROAD WOE-RIORS: Last weekend's road trip to Illinois and Iowa was bad for both the Boilermakers and Hoosiers ... IU had a chance to stay tied for the conference lead with Penn State, but were shutout in both contests by matching 1-0 scores and dropped into a tie for third ... Purdue had the opportunity to pass Illinois for second, but were blanked 2-0 and followed that loss with a 0-0 tie at Iowa ... IU and Purdue are both 3-2-2 on the road.
MORE GOOSE EGGS THAN GOALS: Indiana enters Purdue on a season worst three-match losing streak, in which they have been blanked by Northwestern, Iowa and Illinois ... Indiana has scored two or more goals in a match only four times this year ... the Hoosiers' last multi-goal game was Oct. 1 in a 2-1 win at Michigan ... like Purdue, IU is defined by a tight defense that has shut out eight teams including Penn State, so more often than not, one goal is more than enough ... IU's goal-against avg. is a stellar 0.58.
WHAT'S IN AN OFFENSE?: Indiana is averaging just over a goal per match through 18 contests this season ... Carrie DeFreece is the only Hoosier to have scored 10 points this season, leading the team with four goals to go along with two assists ... Lauren Lamping is second on the team with nine points with two goals and five assists ... the club has outshot its opponents 273-156, an average of 15 shots per match, while allowing just nine shots per match.
