No. 22 Purdue (3-1-1, 0-0 Big Ten) vs. Valparaiso Crusaders (3-1, 0-0 Horizon League)

ON THE VERGE OF 100: The Boilermakers go after the 100th win in program history this afternoon against Valparaiso ... now in their 10th season of soccer, the Old Gold & Black have averaged a little over 10 wins a season ... since Purdue made its first postseason appearance in 2000, it has averaged 12 wins per year ... Purdue is 2-0 all-time vs. the Crusaders and 7-2-1 against teams from the Horizon League.

JET CITY WOMEN: Purdue snapped a two-game road losing streak in spectacular fashion this past weekend in Seattle, as they beat Washington 3-1 and then-No. 1 Portland 1-0 to win the Nike/Husky Invitational ... Purdue is the first team other than UW or Portland to win this invitational during its 14-year history ... Shauna Stapleton received the tournament's Offensive MVP award while goalkeeper Jenny Bradfisch was voted Defensive MVP ... Stapleton scored three goals, including two vs. the Huskies and the game-winner against Portland ... Bradfisch made five saves through both games.

SHAUNA CENTRAL: As of Tuesday afternoon, Stapleton had been honored by three soccer organizations/publications for her offensive efforts at Washington ... Stapleton received her first ever Big Ten Player of the Week award Monday and Tuesday was named to the Soccer Buzz Magazine and teams of the week ... the NSCAA/adidas and Soccer America teams of the week are released Wednesday.

THE CRUISING CRUSADERS: The Valparaiso Crusaders are making their first regular-season appearance in West Lafayette since 1998, which was Purdue's first season of college soccer ... the Boilermakers beat Valpo that season 3-0 and again on the road 7-1 in 2000 ... the Crusaders enter Wednesday's game with a 3-1 record and have won their last two matches, topping IPFW 4-0 and IUPUI 2-0 ... Valpo's lone loss this year was a 2-1 decision to Illinois State; it beat Murray State 2-0 at home to begin the 2007 season ... the Crusaders are led on offense by Jessie White and Jackie Thomas, both of whom have two goals ... five other Valpo players have scored at least one goal ... goalkeepers Erin Murray and Mele Cabral have split time in between the pipes ... Murray is 2-1 with two shutouts and eight saves, while Cabral is 1-0 with one shutout and two saves ... Valpo's head coach is Stephen Anthony, who sports an all-time win-loss record of 71-93-13 through nine-plus seasons with the Crusaders.



HOME ON THE RANGE: Wednesday's game vs. Valparaiso is the first of a seven-match homestand for the Boilermakers ... prior to 2007, Purdue's longest homestand stretched just four games ... the Boilermakers played four-straight games during the 2004 and 2006 seasons, compiling a 7-0-1 record ... in 2004, Purdue defeated Miami (3-2) and then blanked Wright State, Iowa and Minnesota by matching 1-0 scores ... in 2006, the Boilermakers knocked off No. 12 Utah 2-0, and tied Toledo at 1-1 before shutting out Ohio State and Minnesota 1-0 ... Purdue's all-time home record is 54-25-7 ... the Boilermakers are 51-20-7 at the VSC.

BIG TEN VS. NO. 1: According to top-notch research compiled by Purdue soccer public address announcer Mark Leddy and the Big Ten's Valerie Todryk, Purdue is only the second conference women's soccer squad to post a victory over the nation's top ranked team ... in 1999, Penn State became the first Big Ten club to accomplish this feat with a win over No. 1 North Carolina ... in 2005, Michigan tied No. 1 Penn State at the Big Ten Tournament and advanced on penalty kicks.

JUST A LITTLE RESPECT: Despite winning three games last week over Xavier (4-1), Washington (3-1) and No. 1 Portland (1-0), the Boilermakers made only a little dent in the national polls ... Purdue cracked the Soccer Buzz poll for the first time this year with a No. 30 ranking ... NSCAA/adidas bumped the Boilermakers from the receiving votes category to No. 22 ... Soccer America lists Purdue at No. 24.

SALUTE OUR HEROES: Purdue soccer will salute the heroes of the American Armed Forces this Sunday at 1 p.m. for its match against Bowling Green ... mini-American Flags will be distributed and the Boilermakers' game-worn red, white and blue uniforms will be auctioned following the game ... free admission will be granted to those who bring soccer balls (new or used) to be sent to the Soccer Chopper ... the Soccer Chopper's mission is to deliver soccer balls to children in Afghanistan ... free admission also will be granted to those with a military ID card or proof of service ... Purdue ROTC will have their color guard present for the playing of the national anthem.

KICKS FOR CANCER: Join the Boilermaker Soccer team for a mother/child clinic following the 1 p.m. game against the Northwestern Wildcats ... the team will host a post-game clinic targeted at soccer moms and children with no experience required ... registration will be available online and the fee includes admission to the game, t shirt, Kicks Against Cancer lapel pin and lots of soccer fun ... it's a great way to learn basic soccer skills, meet the Purdue soccer team, and burn some calories ... for more information visit and keep watching for registration details.
