WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women’s soccer team came in fourth in the Big Ten preseason poll, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Head coach Robert Klatte’s team returns 19 letterwinners and 10 starters from last year’s 12-7-3 team that earned the third seed in the Big Ten Tournament with a 5-3-2 conference mark. The Boilermakers also get senior co-captain Jessica Okoroafo, who ranks in the top four in school history in six different offensive categories, back after she missed all but four games last season due to injury.

Penn State was picked as the preseason favorite by the conference’s coaches. Michigan State was picked second, with Illinois coming in third. Directly behind Purdue was a tie for fifth between Ohio State and Minnesota. Wisconsin and Indiana were voted seventh and eighth, respectively, and Northwestern followed in ninth. Iowa was picked 10th and Michigan selected 11th.

The Boilermakers kick off their season at home against Ohio on Aug. 21 at 5:30 p.m. ET. Purdue’s first Big Ten game is at Wisconsin on Sept. 25.
