WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue women's soccer head coach Robert Klatte has announced a seven-player recruiting class set to join the Boilermakers for the 2014 season in the fall.

Signing up to play for Purdue includes: Erika Arkans (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon), Vanessa Korolas (Mississauga, Ontario/Goetz), Maddy Olson (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview), Andrea Petrina (Hamilton, Ontario/Cardinal Newman), Nicole Robertson (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley), Brea'Anna Sanders (Indianapolis/Pike) and Erika Yohn (Morgantown, W.Va./University).

"We really feel that this class combines athleticism, technical ability and competitiveness to ensure that we continue to make the strides necessary to get Purdue soccer back to competing for championships," Klatte said. "We added talent and depth to most every position. We're also fortunate to have eight starters back from last season."

Petrina and Robertson were both high-scoring standouts during their prep careers. Olson and Yohn are goalkeepers. Korolas and Sanders should also help the Boilermakers defensively.

Arkans, Petrina, Sanders and Yohn were all part of teams that won notable championships at the state or provincial levels. Korolas and Olson were standout performers in multiple sports. Korolas and Petrina were both named the top female athletes at their schools in Ontario. Yohn was selected as the West Virginia Goalkeeper of the Year as a high school junior.

The following is an individual recap of honors and accomplishments for each recruit as well as comments from Klatte.

Erika Arkans
Hometown/High School: Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS
Height & Position: 5-foot-7 Midfielder/Forward
Coach Klatte Says: "Erika is a very hard working wide player who possesses good speed. She can create out wide 1v1 and also arrive in the box to score goals. She's strong in the air and will most likely find time playing wide in either the forward or midfield lines."
Highlights & Honors: Four-year varsity letter-winner... offensive team MVP as a junior and team captain as a senior... part of an Excalibur state tournament championship team in 2011 and Excalibur finalists again in 2013.

Vanessa Korolas
Hometown/High School: Mississauga, Ontario/Father Michael Goetz Secondary
Height & Position: 5-foot-10 Defender/Midfielder
Coach Klatte Says: "Vanessa possesses great size with good pace. She is calm on top of the ball, distributes well, and is versatile in that she can play most any role along the back line or as a holding midfielder. She will help us become more dominant in the air and her reading of the game is really top notch."
Highlights & Honors: Four-year Athlete of the Year at Goetz Secondary... won team MVP in soccer three times as well as track and field, basketball and volleyball once... earned academic honors in her upperclassman years.

Maddy Olson
Hometown/High School: Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview HS
Height & Position: 5-foot-6 Goalkeeper
Coach Klatte Says: "Maddy is a hard worker with good size and athleticism who will add depth at the goalkeeper position. She is quick off her line, able to get up and down well and is a solid shot stopper. She's blessed with potential."

She's also strong in the air. Her all-around skills and technical savvy, coupled with her physical approach and unrelenting style of play, will make her a contributor in both the midfield and forward lines."
