Final Stats

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Purdue soccer was up early but could not hold on late, as Louisville managed a 1-1 tie against the Boilermakers Sunday afternoon in Kentucky. It was Purdue's first tie game since their tilt at Michigan on Oct. 17 of last year.

Senior Felicia Schroeder scored the lone goal for the Boilermakers on an assist by freshman Kellie Phillips. Junior Loredana Riverso and freshman Alexis Tryba each recorded two shots on goal.

The Purdue defense had another solid outing, as well. Junior goalkeeper Jenny Bradfisch made a career-high nine saves on the day and defenders Sylvia Forbes, Liz Secue and Jessica Stellhorn made their presence felt, matching the physicality of the Cardinal attack.

Louisville finished the game with eight fouls compared to Purdue's 11. The Cardinals were aggressive from the get-go, however, committing seven offsides penalties.

The Boilermakers struck first in the 22nd minute when Schroeder took a header off a beautiful corner kick by Phillips. It was Schroeder's second goal of the season and seemed to give Purdue a leg up early on in such a tough, physical game.

It was back-and-forth the rest of the way, with Purdue clinging to its one goal lead through halftime. In the 72nd minute, Louisville senior Shannon Smyth scored from 40 yards out on a ball that was seemingly going over the cross bar. On what might have been a pass intended for her teammates, Smyth's shot went over Bradfisch and knotted the score at 1-1.

In the closing seconds of regulation sophomore Roya Akhavain had a chance in front of the Cardinal net, but her shot attempt was blocked and the ball dribbled out of bounds as time expired.

Louisville controlled the first overtime period, as they tallied five shots in the stanza. Purdue got back on the offensive in the second overtime, registering four shots. It was not enough for either team, however, and the match ended in a 1-1 tie.

The Boilermakers' record moves to 3-1-1 on the year after today's game. They return to the pitch on Wednesday to take on Miami (Fla.). Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
