No. 16 Purdue won it's first event of the 2006-07 season at the Aloha Purdue Collegiate Invitational Nov. 23 and was recognized by Golfweek magazine as the women's collegiate team of the week. The Boilermakers posted rounds of 295-300-283 for an 878 total; seven shots better than second-place Pepperdine. Purdue's final round 3-over 283 was a tournament best.
Individually, Maria Hernandez shot a final round 66, the lowest individual score of the tournament, to finish in second place. Purdue had two other top-10 finishers, junior Whitney Frykman finished fifth and sophomore Christel Boeljon tied for eighth.
Purdue has two golfers ranked in the top-50 nationally, Hernandez at No. 13 and Boeljon at No. 35.
The team of the week honor came after the final week of fall competition for Purdue. The Boilermakers are in action again on Feb. 23-25 when they host the 2007 Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
