WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue women's golf head coach Devon Brouse and the Boilermakers signed two individuals to national letters of intent this week as Linn Andersson and Marta Martin Garcia will join the team in the fall of 2014. Both internationally accomplished players, Andersson and Garcia look to bolster the Boilermakers' tradition of NCAA Championship success.
"We're very excited about Linn and Marta and believe they bring some exceptional talent and work ethic to our team," said Brouse. "Their accomplishments speak for themselves, but they're both incredible competitors and bring a desire to win at everything."
Andersson hails from Jonkoping, Sweden, and will be the second Swedish member of the Purdue roster alongside junior Johanna Tillström. Ranked as the No. 139 European amateur, she won the 2013 Swedish Junior National Championship and the Kristianstad Åhus Ladies Open, and helped the Swedish Junior Girls team to back-to-back European Girls' Team Championships in 2012 and 2013.
"Linn is as tenacious a player as I've ever recruited," said Brouse. "It's very easy to underestimate her because of her height, and that could be her greatest advantage. She is a fantastic competitor."
Garcia is a native of Madrid, Spain, where she carries the No. 141 European amateur ranking and has played on a variety of Spanish national teams over the last five years. She won the Junior Open of Madrid in June, in addition to a variety of top-10 finishes including the Belgian International Junior Championship (ninth), the XXIV Grand Prix de Ciberta (seventh) and the International Amateur Ladies Stroke Play tournament in Orihuela, Spain. Garcia is the Boilermakers' second player to come from Spain over the last few years, the other being 2009 NCAA Champion Maria Hernandez.
"We're excited to have another great player from Spain coming to West Lafayette," said Brouse. "Marta has already achieved at a very high level internationally and she will be a great fit here at Purdue."
The Boilermakers open their spring season on Feb. 16, hosting the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
