  • WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's golf team will be competing in the 2008 Windy City Collegiate Championships beginning Monday, Oct. 6. The 54-hole tournament will be hosted by Northwestern University at the par-72, 6,320 yard Evanston Golf Club in Skokie, Ill.

No. 12 Purdue enters the 13-team field as one of three teams ranked in the top 25 of the Golf World/NGCA Golf Coaches' Poll. Also ranked are No. 17 Arizona and No. 25 Texas. East Carolina, Iowa State, Illinois, Michigan, host Northwestern, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas State, UNC-Wilmington and UNLV round out the remainder of the field.

Purdue is coming off an eighth-place finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship last week. Purdue shot three-round total of 890 (+26), led by senior Maria Hernandez's even-par 216.

Hernandez will look to emulate last week's performance as she enters competition as the only Boilermaker ranked in Golfweek's top-50 individual rankings, averaging 73.7 strokes per round. Joining Hernandez is sophomore Junthima Gulyanamitta, averaging 73.8 strokes per round, senior Carolyn Mess and freshman Vaishavi Sinha.

Purdue is only sending four golfers to the event because sophomore Maude-Aimee Leblanc and freshman Thea Hoffmeister will be out of the country competing at the 2008 World Amateur Tour Championships in Adelaide, Australia.

Play will begin with 36 holes starting at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, with the final 18 holes getting underway at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7.

Live scoring of the entire tournament can be found on golfstat.com. A full recap and results of each round will be posted at PurdueSports.com.
