WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -
Purdue rising senior Thea Hoffmeister was named to the 2009-10 All-American Scholar Team by the National Golf Coaches Association.
Hoffmeister was instrumental in helping Purdue secure its first national championship and a third-consecutive Big Ten championship. She was the Boilermakers' low golfer at the NCAA Central Regional, tying for fourth place in Columbus, Ind., and she turned in the lowest round of the season with a 66 on the first day of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
The native of Berlin, Germany, was named second team All-Big Ten after finishing tied for 16th at the Big Ten Championships.
Hoffmeister averaged 75.4 strokes per round as a junior and 72 percent of her rounds counted toward the team score.
The two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree is majoring in management. Hoffmeister recently was recognized as one of 41 Boilermaker student-athletes to earn the Big Ten's Distinguished Scholar Award, which is bestowed on student-athletes who have earned a 3.7 GPA or higher for the fall and spring semester.
The criteria for selection to the NGCA All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
