U.S. Women’s Open Coverage

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - This weekend’s U.S. Women’s Open will feature three former members of the Purdue women’s golf team, including 2017 Boilermaker graduate and All-American August Kim. Joining Kim at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey will be Laura Gonzalez Escallon and Paula Reto. All three will be making their first career appearance at the major event, and mark the second straight year a Boilermaker has played in the U.S. Women’s Open.

Kim heads into just her sixth professional event, with four stops on the Symetra Tour and her first LPGA appearance at the Meijer LPGA Classic. She’s fresh off a second-place finish at the Donald Ross Centennial Classic in Fort Wayne, Indiana last weekend, and has already climbed to 22nd on the 2017 “Volvik Race to the Card” money list.

Gonzalez Escallon is in her rookie season on the LPGA, and already has risen to 54th on the Race to CME Globe list. She’s made the cut in 9-of-14 events so far this season with top-10 finishes at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic and the Manulife LPGA Classic, and has collected $162,791 in her brief LPGA career.

Reto debuted on the LPGA in 2014, and ranks 129 on the Race to CME Globe this season. Her top showing of 2017 came alongside her former teammate at the Manulife LPGA Classic, tying for 15th, while she made 19-of-27 cuts in 2016, and qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games for her native country of South Africa. She has $516,755 in career earnings in her four season on the LPGA.

Tournament play begins Thursday, and Reto will be the first of the three off the tee at 8:24 a.m. ET. Kim follows at 8:57 a.m., while Gonzalez Escallon is in the afternoon groupings, starting at 2:20 p.m.
