No. 9 Women's Golf Headed to NCAA West Regional

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - On Monday evening, the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Committee announced the teams and individuals that earned the right to participate in the 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Regionals. The ninth-ranked Purdue women's golf team is the No. 4 seed in the West Regional to be held at the Stanford Golf Course at Stanford University from May 9 to 11 in Palo Alto, Calif. The Boilermakers are coming off a tie for their sixth conference tournament title at the Big Ten Championships in French Lick, Ind., on Sunday.

Top-ranked Southern California is the top seed in the West Regional., with No. 5 seed and 11th-ranked Stanford serving as the tournament host. The Trojans won this year's Pac-12 tournament championship and won the NCAA Championships in 2008.

The remainder of the 24-team field includes fifth-ranked Arizona, No. 8 Vanderbilt, No. 18 Georgia, No. 21 Baylor, No. 27 Texas A&M, No. 29 Pepperdine (WCC), No. 28 LSU, No. 33 Denver (WAC), No. 34 South Carolina, No. 44 Ohio State, No. 41 Oregon, No. 48 UNLV, No. 50 California, No. 40 Florida State, Miami (Fla.), San Jose State, Harvard (Ivy), Kent State (MAC), Northern Arizona (Big Sky), North Dakota State (Summit) and Long Island (Northeast).Conference automatic qualifiers are indicated in parentheses next to the institution and rankings are from the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin Ratings.

Six golfers will compete as individuals in each regional and the individuals invited to the West Regional are Laura Wearn of Furman, Jennifer Coleman from Colorado, Sammi Stevens (New Mexico), A Ram Choi (Portland State), Luciane Lee (UC-Irvine) and Michelle Park (UC-Irvine).

Paula Reto is the Boilermakers' highest-ranked individual at No. 21 according to Golfweek. The senior from South Africa won the Big Ten Championships individual title, the sixth-straight for Purdue, with a four-under par 212. Senior Laura Gonzalez-Escallon is ranked No. 67 by Golfweek, while Kishi Sinha is just outside the top 100 at 110. Sophomore Aurora Kan and freshman Margaux Vanmol are expected to round out the five-player team.



The East Regional will be played at the Auburn University Club in Auburn, Ala. and will be hosted by Auburn, while the Central Regional will be played at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla. Oklahoma will host.

The top eight teams and the top two individuals from non-advancing teams will move on to compete for the national championships at the 2013 NCAA Golf Championships to be held at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga., on May 21 to 24.
