WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue senior Laura Gonzalez-Escallon earned Big Ten Golfer of the Week on Wednesday after winning the Lady Buckeye Invitational individual title on Sunday in Columbus, Ohio, and helping the Boilermakers to a second place finish.
The defending Big Ten Championship medalist won the first individual title of her senior season with a 221 in the Lady Buckeye Invite. Gonzalez-Escallon carded a pair of 73s on Saturday and closed with a 75 in the final round to earn a three-stroke win against Ohio State's Amy Meier (79-72-73=224). It is the fourth career individual tournament championship for Gonzalez-Escallon, the first Big Ten Golfer of the Week award of the season and the fifth of her career.
The Boilermakers begin play at the Big Ten Championships on Friday on the Donald Ross course at the French Lick Resort in French Lick, Ind. The 54-hole tournament runs April 26 to 28 with live scoring available at golfstatresults.com.
