WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - After the final day of last weekend’s Dallas Athletic Club/SMU Invitational was cancelled due to inclement weather, the Boilermaker women’s golf team scheduled the Purdue Rainy Day Shootout for Saturday, April 12. The Boilermakers host Big Ten rival Iowa and Kent State University for the one-day, 36-hole event on the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, starting at 8 a.m. (ET).
The Hawkeyes and Golden Flashes were also at the Dallas Athletic Club last weekend, as mother nature cheated them from the final day of competition. Purdue head coach Devon Brouse gathered with Iowa and Kent State head coaches Megan Menzel and Greg Robertson, and scheduled Saturday’s par 72, 6,228 event.
All three squads will field a six-player team, attributing the top-four scores each round to a final team total. Junior Aurora Kan headlines the Boilermakers’ lineup, averaging 73.6 strokes per round this season, with a trio of top-10 finishes. Junior Johanna Tillström and sophomore Vinh-Hoa Ngo return to the lineup after missing last weekend’s event, while sophomore Brooke Beegle and freshmen August Kim and Ashley Yarbrough round out the Purdue squad. Tillström and Ngo each have a pair of top-10 showings to their credit, while Beegle has one as well.
Iowa freshman Allison Lindley shot a career-best, two-round score of 151 last weekend, tying for 16th in the individual standings, while Kent State rookie Wad Phaewchimplee paced the Golden Flashes with a nine-over, 153, and was tied with Kan and Purdue sophomore Anna Appert Lund for 23rd place. Kent State finished the tournament in 12th place, while Purdue tied for 13th and Iowa placed 15th.
