WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 11 Purdue women's golf team is set to compete for the first time in the web.com Intercollegiate on April 8 and 9. The 54-hole strokeplay event will be held at the par-72, 6,056-yard Marsh Landing Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Jacksonville University will serve as the host team, partnering with East Carolina and Central Florida. Live scoring of the two-day event, also referred to as the Marsh Landing Invitational, will be available on golfstatresults.com.
Twenty teams are set to participate in the tournament, with No. 11 Purdue the highest ranked team in the field. No. 16 Texas Tech, No. 29 Iowa State, No. 43 Florida State, No. 44 Central Florida and No. 49 East Carolina are all in the top 50 according the Golfweek. Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Daytona State College, Florida International, Illinois, Jacksonville, James Madison, Kennesaw State, Maryland, Michigan, North Florida, Sam Houston State and Stetson round out the field.
The Boilermakers won their second tournament of the season in their last outing, March 17 at the Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate in Augusta, Ga. It is the second team title for Purdue in three tries at the Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate at Forest Hills Golf Club. The Boilermakers won the event in 2011 and finished third last season. This year, senior Paul Reto led the team on the final day of the competition with a season-low round of 68 and earned a second-place finish.
Purdue has three golfers ranked in the top 100 in the nation. Reto is currently ranked No. 24 in the GolfWeek/Sagarin poll along with classmates Laura Gonzalez-Escallon and Kishi Sinha at No. 68 and No. 84.
The web.com Intercollegiate begins with an 8:30 a.m. ET shotgun start on Monday, with 36 holes played that day. The Boilermakers will be paired with Texas Tech, Iowa State and Central Florida. Tuesday's third and final round also will be an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. A daily recap with full results will be posted to purduesports.com.
