WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's golf team opens up the spring season on Sunday, hosting the 2014 Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Mar Country Club River Course in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The three-day event includes six of the top-25 teams in the nation, including seventh-ranked Alabama, eighth-ranked Arkansas and No. 15 North Carolina State.

This year's tournament marks the 14th straight season the Boilermakers have hosted the annual event, which started under Purdue head coach Devon Brouse in 2003 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The event moved to Rio Grande in 2009, and this year's River Course is set up as a par-72, 5,826-yard venue for the three-day, 54-hole event.

In addition to Alabama, Arkansas and North Carolina State, the field is comprised of Auburn, Augusta State, Georgia, Iowa State, Kent State, Michigan, Missouri, Northwestern, TCU, Tennessee, Texas Tech and the Boilermakers.

Purdue sends six individuals to compete in the spring opener, led by junior Aurora Kan, who averaged a team-low 73.6 strokes per round in the fall. Kan has five top-10 tournament finishes in her career, including her first career event championship at the Butler Fall Invitational in October. She'll be joined by junior Johanna Tillström, sophomore Brooke Beegle and freshman August Kim, in addition to brand new teammates Anna Appert Lund and Ashley Yarbrough.

Appert Lund joins the Boilermakers from Morehead State, where she was one of the Eagles' top players over the last year, averaging 74.3 strokes per round and finished in the top-10 in 10 of 16 events. Yarbrough comes to Purdue after just a semester at Coastal Carolina, where she played in a pair of events last fall for the Chanticleers.

Tournament action will begin at 7 a.m. (ET) on Sunday with a shotgun start, followed by another 7 a.m. start on Monday and a 7:30 a.m. tee time on Tuesday. Pairings and live scoring will be available throughout the tournament via GolfStat.com, while results and recaps will be posted at the conclusion of each day at PurdueSports.com.
