WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The ninth-ranked Purdue women's golf team is playing host to the 11th annual Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Mar Beach Resort in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The tournament begins on Sunday, Feb. 10 and concludes on Feb. 12. The tournament will be held on the River Course at the Rio Mar Beach Resort.
The course is set up as a par-72, 6,191-yard venue for the three-day, 54-hole event.
Leading the Big Ten in the Golfweek/Sagarin poll, the Boilermakers will face conference rivals No. 23 Northwestern, No. 42 Indiana, No. 83 Michigan and Nebraska.
Other top 100 teams slated to compete are No. 6 Alabama, No. 13 Arkansas, No. 19 N.C. State, No. 20 Texas Tech, No. 25 Iowa State, No. 28 Kentucky, No. 33 Auburn, No. 36 Southern Methodist, No. 71 TCU and No. 76 Kent State round out the 15-team field.
The Boilermakers ended the fall season by tying for third place with Texas Tech at the Landfall Tradition. The tournament was shortened to just one official round due to heavy rainfall from Hurricane Sandy. Senior Kishi Sinha was the Boilermakers' top individual, tying for third with a 71 on the first day.
Both Sinha and classmate Paula Reto are ranked in the top 100 by Golfweek at No. 66 and No. 28.
The six golfers representing Purdue will be Reto, Sinha and 2012 Big Ten Player of the Year Laura Gonzalez-Escallon. Sophomore Aurora Kan and freshmen Margaux Vanmol and Brooke Beegle round out the travel party.
Foursomes will tee off with a shot gun start at 7 a.m. ET on Sunday and Monday and a 6:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday. Team pairings and live scoring will be available at golfstat.com and daily recaps will be posted at purduesports.com.
