HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. - The Purdue women's golf team finished the first day of competition at the 2013 Windy City Collegiate Classic, hosted by Northwestern at Northmoor Country Club, tied for ninth place overall with a two-round total of 299-295-594. Junior Aurora Kan had the Boilermakers' top individual effort of the day as she sits tied for 25th in the individual standings with a score of +3 (73-72-145).

The Boilermakers came out a little slow in the first round of the day, finishing tied for 10th at 299. Kan shot a two-over par, 73, and was just four shots off the individual lead, while junior Johanna Tillström was just one shot back at 74 after shooting one-under on the back-nine, including her first eagle as a Boilermaker on Hole No. 1. Sophomore Vinh-Hoa Ngo and freshman August Kim turned in the other two score cards in the first round with matching scores of 76.

In round two Kan had an up-and-down front nine, making a trio of birdies and a pair of bogies, and was steady coming home on the back side with pars of eight of nine holes for a +1, 72. Ngo made a late rally to match Kan's 72, birdying three of the last five holes, and Kim made 13 pars and a birdie in her second round to card a 74. Tillström had a tough back-nine in her second round of the day to finish with a 77. Sophomore Brooke Beegle was the fifth Boilermaker on hand, finishing 78-77-155, including an even-par front nine in her second round.

"We're looking to improve tomorrow and move up the leaderboard," said Boilermaker assistant coach Carolina Hegg. " Aurora was steady and Vinh-Hoa and August fought back in the afternoon, but we need to go out and make a statement tomorrow morning."

Southern California leads the field with a score of 284-278-562 (-6), including individual front-runner Kyung Kim who is -5 after two rounds. Oklahoma State (-5), Arizona (-4), Stanford (-1) and tournament host Northwestern (+3) round out the top five team scores.

The Boilermakers resume play tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. (CT) and live results can continue to be found at GolfStat.com.
