WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 29th-ranked Boilermakers shot a 295 for the second day in a row and moved up to a tie for third at the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships in Franklin, Tenn.
Purdue (293-295-295=883) is just six shots behind No. 2 Alabama who holds the lead for the third-straight round, but with a 306 on Thursday, the Crimson Tide allowed teams to close the gap. Alabama has a three-round total of 877, No. 3 Southern California is in second with an 879 and Purdue, No. 19 South Carolina and No. 25 Virginia are tied for third at 883.
Laura Gonzalez-Escallon continues as the low golfer for Purdue. The junior is tied for eighth with a three-round total of 217 (67-76-74, +1) after carding a 74 on Thursday.
Freshman Aurora Kan surpassed her career low by three strokes, firing a 69 in round three. The Chichester, Pa., native has moved into a tie for 17th with a score of 220 (77-74-69).
Junior Paula Reto had shot a 73 in each of the first two rounds, but carded a 77 on Thursday. She is tied for 34th with a total of 223. Kishi Sinha is tied for 40th with a score of 224. The redshirt junior from Noida, India, fired a 76 in round three. Vicky Scherer also shot a 76 and is tied for 92nd with a total of 231.
Two golfers are tied for first place. Oklahoma's Chirapat Jao-Javanil and Giulia Molinaro from Arizona State both sit atop the leaderboard with four-under par totals of 212.
Head coach Devon Brouse has led the Boilermakers to a top 10 finish in each of the last six NCAA Championships, including the national title in 2010 and a runner up finish last season.
Purdue will tee off in the final round of the NCAA Championships from hole No. 1 at the Vanderbilt Legends Golf Club starting at 1:56 p.m. ET. The Boilermakers will be paired with Alabama and Southern Cal.
