Aurora Kan shot a three-over, 75 at the opening round of the NCAA Women's Golf Central Regional Championship, hosted by Oklahoma State University at Karsten Creek Golf Club on Thursday. Kan is currently tied for 25th in the individual standings, matching 15 other players at the mark, and 10 shots off the individual lead.
Kan had a fairly even day on the course, making 14 pars, losing strokes on the second, eighth and 13th holes and getting one back on the 14th. After making par on the par-five opening hole, Kan dropped a stroke on the second, and dropped one more on the par-four eights. She hit four straight pars heading to the 13th, but lost two strokes on the par four before making her lone birdie of the day on the par-five 14th.
Kent State's Wad Phaewchimplee dominated the course on Thursday, firing a seven-under, 65 to hold a three-shot lead on the field. Alabama's Emma Talley is second at four-under, 68, while three players are tied for third at one-under, 71. The Crimson Tide is tied for the team lead with California at seven-over, 295, while Florida and Kent State are tied for third at eight-over, 296.
Play resumes tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. (CT), while Kan takes the course at 12:45 p.m., opening on the 10th hole.
