Purdue senior Colleen Cashman shot a two-over par 75 on the final day of competition at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa, earning medal honors for the first time during the spring season. Going into the final round, Cashman was tied with Indiana's Michelle Hatfield and Wisconsin's Patty Frohna, but her score eclipsed Hatfield's (84) and Frohna's (80), giving her sole possession of first place. She shot a three-round total of 223, one stroke ahead of second-place finisher Jenny Gray of Indiana.
The Boilermakers finished third in the team standings, eight strokes behind second place Wisconsin and 25 behind tournament winner Indiana, who shot a combined total of 902. Iowa State and Iowa rounded out the top five.
Sophomore Stacy Orschell placed 10th after firing a final round of 77. Her total of 231 was just three strokes out of third place. Juniors Johanna Gollings and Lisa Kenley also cracked the top 20 with combined totals of 238 and 239 as they finished 18th and 19th, respectively. Junior Angie Blythe shot an 82 on the final day, placing 41st overall, while fellow junior Rebecca Burkhart shot an 83, placing 47th. The Boilermakers will return to action next weekend at the Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio.
