WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women’s golf team is in second place after the opening day of the Lady Boilermaker Classic, hosted at Ackerman-Allen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex on Saturday. The Boilermakers played 36 holes at 13-over par, 297-292=589, and trail Texas Tech by 11 strokes going into the final round.
Sophomore Micaela Farah had the top individual day for the Boilermakers, sitting tied for fifth place at two-over par, 73-73=146. She rallied late in the opening round, playing her final seven holes at two-under par with birdies on No. 12 and No. 15, and scattered three birdies in her second 18 holes to match her opening round score. Farah is four shots behind the overall leader going into the final round.
Freshman Inez Wanamarta had the best round of the day for the Boilermakers, shooting one-under, 71, in the second round and is tied for seventh at three-over par, 76-71=147. She made birdie on No. 2, No. 9 and No. 16 in the second round, using a solid chip shot to make a birdie putt on the final par-five hole of the course.
Senior Marta Martin is ninth overall after shooting four-over par, 74-74=148, and juniors Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri and Covadonga SanJuan are tied for 10th with matching totals of five-over par, 149. Putri had her better 18 in the first round, shooting two-over, 74, while SanJuan flipped it in the second round with her own score of two-over, 74.
Texas Tech used an impressive opening round to hold the team score, shooting four-under, 284, on the first 18 to sit two-over par, 284-294=578. Mami Yamamoto and Gabby Barker are first and second on the individual leaderboard and the only two players under par at two-under and one-under, respectively.
The final round begins Sunday at 9 a.m. ET with a shotgun start. The Boilermakers will open play on No. 1 – No. 4, playing alongside Texas Tech and Augusta.
