WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women’s golf team finished second at the Rainy Day Shootout team title on Saturday, falling to visiting Kent State but defeating Iowa at the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. Junior Aurora Kan led the Old Gold and Black, finishing at five-over, 149 for 36 holes to post the top individual score of the event.
The Boilermakers fired a team score of 309-313=622 for the one-day event, falling by four strokes to the Golden Flashes (305-313=618), but besting the Hawkeyes by six strokes (309-319=628).
Kan shot or tied the best mark on both rounds, finishing two-over, 74, on the first 18, and coming home at three-over, 75. Sophomore Brooke Beegle had a solid day, shooting four-over, 76, for both rounds to finish second overall, but the Boilermakers saw some drop off after that as junior Johanna Tillström placed 10th with a score of 81-79=160, while sophomore Vinh-Hoa Ngo and freshmen Ashley Yarbrough and August Kim posted three of the four final scores.
Kent State’s team placed third, fourth and fifth, led by Erin Hawe’s 75-78=153 (+9), while Iowa’s top finishers were Karly Grouwinkel and Amy Ihm as they tied for sixth at 157 (+13).
The Boilermakers return to action next weekend at the Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio.
