AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Purdue women's golf team got off to a solid start at the 3M Augusta Invitational on Friday, shooting six-over par 294 at Forest Hills Golf Club and sitting in third place after 18 holes. Sophomore Micaela Farah led the way, finishing one-under par, 71, and sits tied for seventh in the individual standings.
Farah waited to make her move Friday, sitting two-over par after 12 holes with a pair of bogeys. She went on to birdie four of her final six holes, including three of the last four to catapult her team up the leaderboard.
Freshman Inez Wanamarta shot a pristine back nine, dropping seven pars and two birdies to fight back to even par for the day, and junior Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri used a birdie on the final hole to finish one-over par, 73.
Georgia leads the field at seven-under 281, behind a stellar round of six-under from Jillian Hollis, who leads the individual standings. Virgina Tech is one stroke ahead of the Boilermakers.
Play resumes tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. ET as the Boilermakers play Day Two with Georgia and Virginia Tech.
