WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 15th-ranked Purdue women's golf team was led by senior Laura Gonzalez-Escallon's first-round 71 (-1) on Friday and sits in second place at the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate in Augusta, Ga. The Boilermakers fired a 295 on Friday and trail No. 9 Vanderbilt by just five strokes.
Gonzalez-Escallon is in fourth place with her one-below par 71. The 2012 Big Ten Player of the Year recorded four birdies on the front nine. She was Purdue's low golfer in the Purdue Mount Vintage Invitational last weekend, finishing tied for second place.
Freshman Margaux Vanmol is tied for fifth after carding a 73 on Friday. Senior Kishi Sinha was just one stroke behind with a 74 and is tied for 12th with two rounds to play. Sophomore Aurora Kan shot a 77 and is tied for 26th.
Senior Paula Reto had an uncharacteristically high score with an 80, but is tied for 53rd. Reto is Purdue's highest ranked individual, sitting at No. 30 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings.
Freshman Brooke Beegle is competing as an individual, shot an 83 and is tied for 75th at the Forest Hills Golf Club, the home course of host team Augusta State. Forest Hills is set up as a par-72, 6,214-yard course for the three-day, 54-hole tournament.
The Boilermakers will tee off beginning at 10:20 a.m. ET from hole No. 1 on Saturday and will be paired with Vanderbilt and third-place Texas. Live scoring is available at golfstatresults.com and a recap of round two with full results will be posted to purduesports.com.
