The Woodlands, Texas - The 25th-ranked Purdue women’s golf team made the most of Tuesday’s rain-shortened event, shooting even par and taking second place at The Dickson, hosted by the University of Houston at The Woodlands Country Club. Sophomore Micaela Farah posted the top individual performance of her career, shooting three-under 69 and tying for second place in the individual standings.
After Monday’s first two rounds of tournament action were cancelled due to inclement weather, Farah took the course by storm. She made par on her first three holes and then opened the back-nine with three straight birdies to surge to the top of the leaderboard. Farah added another birdie on No. 17 to shoot four under on the back-nine, and gave just one stroke back on the remainder of the front side with a bogey on No. 1.
Freshman Inez Wanamarta shot even par to tie for 14th place in the individual standings, marking her second straight top-20 performance, while sophomore Covadonga SanJuan just missed the top-20 at one-over par, 73, in her return to the Boilermaker lineup. Senior Marta Martin turned in the final team score at two-over par, 74.
Clemson took the event title, shooting five-under 283 as all five players shot even par or better. Texas State’s Sasikarn Somboonsup used a hot closing run to push past Farah on the individual leaderboard, making birdie on three of her final five holes to shoot five-under 67 and take medalist honors. The Boilermakers topped six top-50 opponents with the performance, including 16th-ranked Kent State and No. 21 Houston.
Purdue returns to action March 5, heading to Arizona for the Wildcat Invitational at the Sewailo Golf Club.
