WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 10th-ranked Purdue women's golf team was led by freshman Margaux Vanmol in the opening round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at the English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans, La. The Boilermakers are in 11th place and Vanmol is tied for 20th after she record an even par 72 on Sunday. Purdue shot 295 as a team.

The host, Tulane Green Wave are in first place, recording a six-under par 282 team score. No. 3 Duke and No. 23 UCLA are tied for second place, just one stroke behind at 283.

Tulane's Emily Penttila is atop the individual leaderboard after carding a five-under par 67. Tulane's Gemma Dryburgh and Alabama's Stephanie Meadow are just one stroke behind after firing 68s and are tied for second place.

Redshirt senior Kishi Sinha carded a 73 in the first round and is tied for 31st. Laura Gonzalez-Escallon shot a 75 as did sophomore Aurora Kan and the pair are tied with six others for 54th place. Paula Reto, who has been Purdue's top finisher in each of the full tournaments played this season, recorded a 78 in the opening round and is tied for 77th.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl had been ranked as the third-best women's collegiate tournament for the spring season by Golf Digest, attracting four of the top-five teams in the Golfweek poll. Top-ranked Southern California, No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Duke and No. 5 Florida are joined by 11 top-50 teams, including No. 10 Purdue, No. 19 Texas A&M, No. 20 Oklahoma State, No. 22 Baylor, No. 23 UCLA, No. 25 Texas, No. 29 Tulane, No. 34 Auburn, No. 37 LSU, No. 40 Oregon and No. 42 UTSA. No. 52 Ohio State, No. 66 Tulsa, and No. 80 Colorado round out the talented 18-team field.

Round two begins Monday with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. ET at the English Turn Golf Club which is playing as a par-72, 6,105 yard venue for the event.
