RIO GRANDE, P.R. - The Purdue women’s golf team wrapped up a 10th-place performance Tuesday at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, shooting 20-over par 304 in the final round to finish at 69-over 921. Freshman Inez Wanamarta and sophomore Micaela Farah both finished in the top-20 of the individual standings as Wanamarta was tied for 13th at 13-over par, while Farah tied for 16th at 14-over.
Farah had the top score of the final round, shooting three-over 74, and dropping a team-best four birdies on the day. Wanamarta and senior Linn Andersson tied for the No. 2 score at five-over 76, with Andersson scoring a lone birdie on No. 11, and senior Marta Martin, junior Melati Putri and freshman Lauren Guiao sharing the final team score at seven-over 78. Farah ended up with the top team mark in two of the three rounds for the tournament, with Wanamarta posting the other top score.
Fourth-ranked Arkansas claimed the team title with a score of 30-over par, 882, led by individual medalist Maria Fassi at three-over par, 216. Second place Iowa State finished 10 strokes back at 40-over 892. Arkansas’ team total is the highest winning score in the 16-year history of the tournament, while Fassi’s individual mark is also tied for the highest winning total in Lady Puerto Rico Classic history.
Purdue returns to action in two weeks, heading to The Woodlands, Texas for The Dickson, hosted by the University of Houston.
