RIO GRANDE, P.R. - The Purdue women’s golf team made some improvements Monday, but remain in 10th place after two rounds at the 2018 Lady Puerto Rico Classic, hosted at the Rio Mar Country Club Ocean Course. The Boilermakers bumped a spot in the standings to 10th, shooting 21-over par, 305, led by a top individual score of two-over 73 by freshman Inez Wanamarta.
Wanamarta opened with a bogey Monday, but rallied to play the next 11 holes at one-under, sinking a birdie on No. 3. She stumbled down the stretch with bogeys on No. 8 and No. 11, but still jumped to 13th in the individual standings at eight-over par for the tournament. Junior Melati Putri bounced back from a tough opening day, shooting four-over 75, and sophomore Micaela Farah remained in the top-25 of the individual standings, shooting six-over 77 and sitting 11-over par for the tournament. Senior Marta Martin turned in the final team score, shooting nine-over 80 on the day.
Fourth-ranked Arkansas remains on the lead, despite shooting 18-over par Monday. They hold a five-shot lead on Iowa State, who moved up to second place after a round-best team score of 11-over 295. Arkansas’ Maria Fassi still holds the individual lead at one-over par, 143.
The final day of action starts tomorrow at 7 a.m. ET, as the Boilermakers will play the last 18 alongside Nebraska and Augusta.
