RIO GRANDE, P.R. - The Purdue women’s golf team got off to a rough start at the 16th-annual Lady Puerto Rico Classic, shooting 28-over par, 312, and sitting in 11th place after the first round. Sophomore Micaela Farah had the top individual round for the Boilermakers, shooting five-over par, 76, and tied for 22nd place.
Farah had it going early, shooting one-under over her first six holes, but struggled on the back-nine with five bogies in seven holes to drop on the leaderboard. Freshman Inez Wanamarta had the opposite day, struggling early with bogies, but settling in on the back-nine with eight pars to shoot six-over par, 77. Seniors Marta Martin and Linn Andersson had the final two team scores of the day for the Boilermakers, as Martin shot eight-over par, 79, and Andersson was nine-over par, 80.
Fourth-ranked Arkansas leads the field at even-par, 284, holding an eight shot lead over second place Kent State. Arkansas’ Maria Fassi owns the top individual score of the day at three-under par, 68.
Play resumes tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. ET, as the Boilermakers will start play on the back-nine alongside Colorado and Nebraska.
