WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's golf team opened the Lady Puerto Rico Classic with a 15-over par 303 at the Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, on Sunday. The Boilermakers, who exit the opening round of the first tournament of the spring in eighth place, trail leader Arkansas (+3, 291) by 12 strokes heading into the second round on Monday.
Individually, seniors Paula Reto and Laura Gonzalez-Escallon paced the Boilermakers by shooting 75 on the par-72 course. The three-over rounds place the duo in a tie for 22nd behind leader Emily Tubert of Arkansas, who fired a two-under 70 on Sunday.
Playing unattached from the Boilermakers, freshman Brooke Beegle posted a two-over par 74 as an individual. The effort leaves her tied for 16th among all players.
Purdue, which is the host institution for the tournament, will open the second round on Monday at 7 a.m. ET. Live scoring can be found at Golfstat.com.
