Boilers Take Third in Hawkeye Invitational
IOWA CITY, Iowa - In fourth place at the end of the first two rounds, the Purdue women's golf team rallied in the third to sneak past host Iowa for third place in the Hawkeye Invitational.
Purdue totaled a 938 over 54 holes. Ohio State won the title with a 907, followed by Indiana with a 926. Iowa placed fourth in the field of eight Big Ten teams with a 940.
Leading the way for Purdue was freshman Stacy Orschell. The rookie finished tied for sixth with a 54-hole score of 232. Junior Colleen cashman finished in the top 10, as well.
Her score of 233 placed her in a three-way tie for ninth. Medalist honors went to the Buckeyes' Jessica Luciuk, who shot a 220.
Also for the Boilers, sophomore Angie Blythe and freshman Kelly Beth Simmons tied for 21st, both with scores of 239. Junior Heather Hasselberg tied for 28th with a 242, while sophomore Johanna Gollings took 43rd with a 252.
This was Purdue's final warmup before the Big Ten Championships in East Lansing, Mich., on May 2-4. Purdue finished fourth at last year's conference championship.
