Okay, I know you've been waiting a long time for this blog, but I thought the holidays would be the perfect time to share. Winning at Illinois was a great way to start the Christmas break. It is always good to finish on a positive note before parting ways for Christmas. That way the players can truly enjoy the break and aren't worried about the coaches going crazy when they return.

I got a special treat because my daughter, who is a senior in high school, was able to travel with us to Illinois. My daughter, wife and I left after beating Illinois and drove to Benton, Ky., where my parents still live. We arrived home at 2 a.m. I am 45 years old and getting home to see my family means just as much, if not more then when my hair was totally black, without the grey highlights as I like to call them. We stayed at my parents until 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve then headed to Louisville to visit with my in-laws.

I did get to speak with quite a few of our players on Christmas and everyone seemed to be enjoying the time with their families. Sam Woods really seemed excited about all the food! I love the break and spending time with the family but I was ready to get back to Lafayette and start working on the next scout.

January will be a busy and important time for us, but the team is really beginning to come together and their focus has been great since finishing finals. We practice on Dec. 26 at 5 p.m. Coach V wanted everyone to be able to fly back today and not on Christmas. We leave for Iowa tomorrow. Don't forget our next three big home games against Michigan State on Jan. 1, Texas on Jan. 5, and Iowa on Jan. 8. We need everyone's support and I would really love to see another crowd like we had against Maryland. Boiler Up!
