WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue women’s basketball’s Dominique Oden was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday, following a 13-point performance in Saturday’s win over Eastern Michigan. Oden is the first player this season to repeat as the conference rookie of the week and is the first Boilermaker to earn more than one freshman award in a season since 2013.
Oden posted her ninth double-figure scoring game of the season Saturday, finishing with 13 points, five rebounds and an assist, with zero turnovers, in 33 minutes against the Eagles. She drained three triples in the game as well, marking her sixth game with multiple 3’s on the year.
Oden is the Boilermakers’ second-leading scorer at 11.1 points per game this season, ranks third among Big Ten freshman and 27th overall in the conference. She owns Purdue’s No. 2 field goal percentage, converting 46.3 percent from the floor, and her 18 3-pointers for the season are second behind senior Ashley Morrissette.
The last Boilermaker to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors more than once in a season was Taylor Manuel in 2013, taking home recognition twice that year.
The Boilermakers play their final non-conference game of the regular season Wednesday, hosting IUPUI at noon in Mackey Arena.
