WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue women's basketball supervisor of operations Terry Kix will serve as the master of ceremonies for an event Thursday, Nov. 7, held by the Cancer Culture and Community (CCC) program at 7:30 p.m. at Fowler Hall in the Stewart Center at Purdue University. A stomach cancer survivor, Kix will have the opportunity to introduce an original video interview with ESPN great Dick Vitale, as well as a live appearance by former "V Foundation" CEO Nick Valvano.
The Boilermakers have been very involved with the CCC, especially since Kix's original diagnosis in 2011, participating in events such as their annual Carry The Torch Walk. Titled "Laugh, Think and Cry: The Legacy of Jimmy V's Last Speech," the event will include and feature award-winning college basketball coach Jimmy Valvano's inspiration speech at the 1993 ESPY Awards, which he gave less than two months before succumbing to cancer. After words from Vitale and Nick Valvano, the floor will be open for a short question-and-answer segment for attendees.
"I'm thrilled to be a part of such an amazing event," said Kix. "My interactions with the Vitale and Valvano families through this process have been life changing for me, and I know that they will be very special for all who attend."
The entire Boilermaker women's basketball program will be on hand for the event, and invites the community out to join them. For more information on the CCC and Thursday's event, click here.
