The Series: Purdue is 1-0 against Indianapolis (called Indiana Central at the time they played).
The University of Indianapolis has an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students and is a member of NCAA Division II. The Greyhounds compete in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and won the GLVC East Division last season with an overall record of 26-4 and a conference mark of 16-2. UIndy earned a sixth-place ranking in the Div. II Preseason Poll, due in large part to the return of the GLVC Player of the Year, Samantha Meissel who averaged 19.2 ppg and 5.0 rpg in 2009-10. Also returning is 6-foot-1 forward Katie Lyons who averaged 9.1 ppg and 4.4. rpg. UIndy has six returning letterwinners and nine newcomers.
Purdue defeated the Greyhounds when they were still named Indiana Central, 51-42 on Feb. 2, 1982, in Mackey Arena in the only meeting between the two teams in women's basketball.
The Boilermakers will open up the regular season at home against Austin Peay in the first round of the WNIT on Friday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m.
This season marks the third Preseason WNIT appearance for Purdue. The Boilermakers won the tournament Sharon Versyp's first year as head coach, defeating No. 16 Baylor, 69-55, on Nov. 19, 2006, in Waco, Texas. In 2000, fourth-ranked Purdue finished as runners up to No. 11 Louisiana Tech, 68-63. The 16-team, invitation-only Preseason WNIT is an exempt event that is played as a three-game guarantee format. The tournament opens with first-round games Nov. 12 and 13. Second-round games will be played Nov. 14 and 15; semifinals will be Nov. 17 and 18; and the championship is set for Sunday, Nov. 21. Teams that lose in the first two rounds will play consolation games on the second weekend, Nov. 19 and 20. All games are hosted by participating schools and the next round sites will be announced by the end of the preceding round. The 2010 Preseason WNIT brackets, including the consolation bracket can be found on page 5 of the game notes.

Purdue to Host NCAA Tournament First- and Second-Round Games in 2012
For the 14th time, the Boilermakers have been named as a host for the NCAA Tournament first- and second-round games. The NCAA announced on Tuesday that Mackey Arena will serve as one of 16 sites for first- and second-round games in March 2012. Purdue has been on a four-year hiatus from submitting a bid to host due to the Mackey Project construction. The last time Purdue played host to NCAA Tournament games was March 23 and March 25, 2008. That was the last year of the eight-site format with eight teams at each site.
