WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's basketball team was voted the No. 23 team in the nation in this week's USA Today/Coaches preseason poll, earning 129 votes. The Boilermakers have been ranked in at least one of the two national polls heading into 66 of their last 69 games under head coach Sharon Versyp.

"This type of national attention and respect is great for our program," said Versyp. "Our kids have continually worked very hard to earn the attention of coaches across the country and this a testament to that work. We're ready for a great season."

The Boilermakers are one of four Big Ten Conference teams to earn spots on the preseason rankings, following No. 12 Nebraska (381), No. 15 Penn State (313) and No. 18 Michigan State (185). The Boilermakers opened last season at No. 18, earning 240 votes, and climbed as high as 11th in the Coaches Poll.

Versyp and selected players are off to Chicago tonight for tomorrow's Big Ten Media Day, which will begin at 8 a.m (CT). The women's coaches' press conferences will be streamed live, free of charge, on BTN.com via the Big Ten Digital Network (BTDN).
