WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue women's basketball coach Kristy Curry signed a one-year contract extension Tuesday. Curry's contract now runs through the 2008-09 season.

Curry is entering her sixth season at the helm of the Boilermakers. She owns a 136-31 career record, and has won either the Big Ten regular-season or Big Ten Tournament championship every year since she took over the program for the 1999-2000 campaign. Curry has guided Purdue to the NCAA Championships five straight years, including an NCAA title-game appearance in 2001.

Athletics Director Morgan Burke said Curry has few rivals.

"In five short years, Kristy has proven herself as one of the best coaches in the game," Burke said. "Her record of winning games and championships speaks for itself. What sets her apart and makes her an invaluable member of our team is her commitment to develop the players in her program into the finest students, the finest athletes, and the finest people."

Curry is thankful for the commitment Purdue has shown to her and the women's basketball program.

"I'm very appreciative of the loyalty Morgan Burke and the entire Purdue administration have shown me since I arrived in West Lafayette back in 1999," Curry said. "Together we have worked to maintain the tradition of success that Purdue fans have become accustomed to."

Curry and the reigning Big Ten Tournament-champion Boilermakers will begin the 2004-05 season Saturday, with their first official practice. Their season-opening game is scheduled for Nov. 21 against IPFW.
