WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Katie Douglas, a 6-1 junior guard/forward on the Purdue women’s basketball team, was named to the Women’s Basketball News Service Preseason All-America First Team. Douglas was one of 10 players, headlined by Preseason College Player of the Year Maylana Martin (UCLA), to earn the recognition.
A native of Indianapolis, Douglas averaged 14.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists last season for the NCAA national champion Boilermakers. She was a second team All-Big Ten selection and was named to the 1999 NCAA Women’s Final Four All-Tournament team. Douglas was one of 12 players to compete for the United States in the 1999 World University Games in July. She led the Americans to the silver medal, averaging a team-best 17.6 points per game.
The Women’s Basketball News Service also released its preseason Top 25 poll today. Illinois (No. 12), Penn State (No. 14), Ohio State (No. 18) and Wisconsin (No. 24) were the four Big Ten teams to make the list. Purdue was not ranked.
