WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue women’s basketball posted a mark in the top-10 of the national Division I attendance report for the 22nd consecutive season in 2016-17, finishing ninth as reported by the NCAA on Tuesday. The Boilermakers averaged 5,940 fans in Mackey Arena over 15 regular-season games, good for second in the Big Ten Conference.
“This amazing accomplishment is a wonderful tribute to our fans, season ticket holders and all the wonderful members of the Purdue women’s basketball family,” said head coach Sharon Versyp. “Without the support of our families, the Greater Lafayette community and the Boilermaker Network, we couldn’t have made it here.”
The Boilermakers have finished in the NCAA’s top-10 in 25-of-29 seasons reported, posting a mark as high as third during the 1998-99 NCAA Championship season, and never finishing lower than 16th in program history. Purdue is the second of six Big Ten Conference teams in the top-20 in the nation, averaging 71 fewer fans than eighth-place Michigan State, and finishing ahead of Ohio State (13), Nebraska (17) and Iowa (19).
The Big Ten averaged the third-most fans of any conference in the nation at 3,716, finishing behind the SEC and Big 12.
