WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Big Ten Conference unveiled the matchups for the 2017-18 women’s basketball schedule Monday, revealing the home-and-away designations for the Boilermakers’ 16-game slate. Of the other 13 conference opponents, Purdue will play three twice, five once on the road and the remaining five one time in the friendly confines of Mackey Arena.
Purdue’s three home-and-away opponents for this season are Rutgers, Illinois and intrastate rival Indiana. It marks the first time the Boilermakers have played a pair of conference games against these three opponents since the 2014-15 season, which featured an 18-game Big Ten schedule.
The Boilermakers head on the road to face Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska and Ohio State, and will play host to Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Penn State and Wisconsin.
With Purdue’s hot streak to conclude the 2016-17 season, the Boilermakers’ currently own win streaks against 10-of-13 Big Ten opponents, and finished tied for fourth place in the conference standings at 10-6. Purdue has finished in the top-half of the Big Ten in 9-of-11 seasons under head coach Sharon Versyp, including five in the top-three, and has earned double-digit win totals 26 times.
The Boilermakers will officially start practice in October, with an exhibition game slated for Sunday, Nov. 5, the season opener at Central Michigan on Friday, Nov. 10, and the home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 15 against Miami (Ohio).
