Meet the Freshmen: Haley Bodnar

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - This is the first of a five-week series introducing the newest members of the Purdue women's basketball team. Forward Haley Bodnar hails from Saint George, Utah, coming to West Lafayette after winning a state title last season and being named the Gatorade Utah Player of the Year.

10 Questions with Haley
1. What are three words to describe your game?
1) Determined
2) Developing
3) Hardworking

2. What is your favorite thing about Purdue so far?
The atmosphere. I love the area, the people, it's all been fantastic.

3. What have you been doing when you're not playing basketball, going to class or studying?
Sleeping, watching movies and hanging out with my teammates.

4. On a scale of 1-10, how hard have summer practices been? Why?
10. Everything is more competitive and faster than what I'm used to. There is so much new stuff to learn.

5. What game are you most looking forward to on this season's schedule?
Penn State. They've been a great Big Ten team recently and all these games have been competitive. Also my uncle teaches there.

6. What upperclassmen has been the most influential for you so far?
Honestly, they've all been great leaders and helped me out a lot. They're incredibly committed to Purdue basketball.

7. What has become your essential college item that you couldn't live without?
My laptop! I am on it all the time.

8. What is something about you that most people may not know?
I was born in Pittsburgh.

9. What is your proudest basketball memory?
Winning the Utah state title last year. We came up short the year before so finishing it off was awesome.

10. What is your biggest goal for your Boilermaker career?
To be successful, grow and reach my fullest potential as a player. To be the best Haley I can be.

High School Highlights
Four-year varsity letterwinner, leading Desert Hills High School to the 2014 AAA State Championship ... averaged 14 points per game en route to Utah Player of the Year honors from the Salt Lake City Spectrum and Deseret News ... team finished second in the state at AAA as a junior, averaging 13 points per game and earned first team all-state honors ... set Utah state blocked shots record as a sophomore, earning all-defensive state honors and first team all-region honors.

Born Dec. 20, 1995 ... full name is Haley Noel Bodnar ... daughter of Jon and Haven Bodnar ... has a sister, Sierra, and three brothers: Jon, Channing and Sterling ... undecided on her major ... high school coach is Chris Allred.

Ranked 149 overall and 20 at her position by Collegiate Girls Report ... named the 2013-14 Gatorade Player of the Year in Utah ... 2013 Utah 3A State MVP (Salt Lake Deseret News, The Spectrum) ...
