ATLANTA, Ga. - Senior Katie Gearlds won the State Farm Three-Point Shooting Championship last night in Atlanta. It is the 19th year for the slam dunk and three-point shooting competitions that involve the top college seniors not competing in the Final Four.

In the finals of the women's event Gearlds beat out Caroline Williams of Vanderbilt to take the State Farm Women's Three-Point Shooting Championship. That gave Gearlds the opportunity to take on the Midas Touch Men's Three-Point Champion, Aaron Brooks of Oregon. Brooks went first and scored 16 points from the five racks of basketballs. That left the door open for Gearlds, who tied Brooks on her penultimate shot and then beat him on her very last shot, the money ball worth two points. Gearlds won 18 points to Brooks' 16 points.

Gearlds leaves Purdue as the fourth leading scorer in school history with 1,974 points and holds the record for career three-pointers with 238. Her 37.9 percent accuracy from beyond the arc ranks her sixth all-time in that category. Gearlds helped led Purdue to a 31-6 season and the NCAA Dallas Regional Final, which the Boilermakers lost to North Carolina 84-72.
