Scouting The Boilermakers
Purdue (8-5, 2-1 Big Ten) started the conference season with two road wins, a 53-42 victory at Illinois on Dec. 22 and a 69-60 win at Iowa on Dec. 28, but most recently lost 68-62 in overtime to Michigan State in Mackey Arena. In that contest, point guard FahKara Malone suffered an open dislocation of her right ring finger and will be out four to six weeks. Senior Lauren Mioton is expected to start in her place, but sophomore Michelle Clark could see some minutes as well as freshman Brittany Rayburn. Purdue is led by Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton's 13.1 ppg average, while senior Lakisha Freeman and Rayburn are averaging double-digits at 11.1 and 10.2 points per game. Wisdom-Hylton contributes a team-high 9.0 rebounds, is second on the team in steals, blocks and assists. Senior center Danielle Campbell has had two straight 15 point games. The Boilermakers are averaging 67.6 points per game while holding opponents to an average of 59.6 points.

Scouting The Longhorns
The No. 4/4 Longhorns are coming off a 82-45 victory at home over Lamar. The Boilermakers are Texas' (12-1) final non-conference opponent before starting the Big 12 season on Jan. 10 at Texas Tech. The Longhorns suffered their only loss of the season on Dec. 30, a 60-55 defeat at San Diego State in the Surf'N Slam Classic and have defeated three top 25 opponents (Old Dominion, Tennessee and Arizona State). Texas is led by Brittainey Raven's 15.0 ppg average and are a well-balanced rebounding team that averages 44.6 boards per game but have no individual averaging more than 6.0 per game. Gail Goestenkors is in her second year as head coach at Texas.

The Series
This marks the fifth meeting between Purdue and Texas, with the series tied at 2-2. The last time the two teams met, Texas won 64-61 on Jan. 7, 2007, in Austin, Texas. The last Purdue victory was a 71-49 decision on Nov. 19, 2000, in West Lafayette. Neither team has won on the other's home court. The first meeting between the two teams was a 76-71 Boilermaker win on Nov. 26, 1988, in Mackey Arena. Texas won the second matchup, 89-61 on Nov. 27, 1989, in Austin.

Purdue-Texas Connections
Texas head coach Gail Goestenkors was an assistant coach at Purdue from 1986 to 1992, serving five of those seasons under current WNBA Fever head coach Lin Dunn. Purdue head coach Sharon Versyp played for Goestenkors. Versyp was the Boilermaker point guard and a junior at Purdue when Goestenkors joined the coaching staff.

Pounding The Boards
Prior to getting outrebounded 51-37 by Michigan State, Purdue had at least one player pull down double-digit rebounds in five consecutive games and eight of the 12 games on the season. Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton has recorded 10 or more rebounds a team-best six times this season, while Danielle Campbell has done it three times and Natasha Bogdanova twice. Wisdom-Hylton has the fourth highest rebound average in the Big Ten at 9.0 rpg and Campbell is fifth with an 8.6 rpg average.

Big Ten Player Of The Week
Purdue senior Danielle Campbell earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors after leading the Boilermakers to a 69-60 win at Iowa on Dec. 28. The 6-foot-4 center netted 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season and the eighth of her career. The Chicago native was 6 of 11 (54.5 percent) from the field and a perfect 3 for 3 at the free-throw line. Campbell also dished out two assists and swatted away two shots as the Boilermakers defeated the 2008 Big Ten Co-Champion Hawkeyes. The weekly award is the first of Campbell's career and the third for Purdue this season. Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton was named co-Player of the Week on Dec. 2 and FahKara Malone earned Big Ten co-Player of Week on Nov. 25.

Malone Injured
Purdue junior point guard FahKara Malone will miss four to six weeks after suffering an open dislocation of the ring finger on her right hand during overtime of the Michigan State game on Jan. 1. The injury occurred with 2:42 remaining in the extra period with the score tied at 61-61. Malone was going for a loose ball in the paint in traffic. The Spartans would go on to win 68-62 in Mackey Arena. Malone, a native of Evansville, Ind., has played in 83 games as a Boilermaker and has started all but three. She is averaging a team-high 4.8 assists and 2.6 steals per game to go along with her 7.9 points per game this season. The 5-foot-3 guard is a two-time All-Big Ten defensive team member and was named Big Ten co-Player of the Week on Nov. 25. She holds eighth place in the Purdue record books for career steals with 227, she is in 11th for assists with 334 and 11th for career three-pointers with 94.

Record Watch
Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton is in 14th place in the Purdue record book for career scoring and needs 61 points to move past Erin Lawless for the 13th spot. The Big 5-00
Danielle Campbell is second on the team in rebounding this season with an 8.6 rpg average and reached the 500 rebound plateau in mid-December. The 6-foot-4 center has 557 career rebounds and is sixth among active Big Ten players in that category.

Reliable Freeman
Senior Lakisha Freeman is the Boilermaker's second-leading scorer. She had a team-best streak of double-figure scoring games with seven, which was snapped when she scored nine points in the loss to Michigan State.

Shooting The Rock
Purdue's five losses have also been its five lowest shooting performances this season, including a season-low 31.3 percent from the field at Valparaiso. The Boilermakers shot just 32.8 percent from the field against Michigan State. The Boilermakers have shot 41.4 percent or better in their eight wins, including two games of 50.0 percent or better (Hawai'i and Prairie View A&M).
