Wrestling Makes ELSM/NWCA Top 10 Best of Brand Power Rankings

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Purdue wrestling team has been named to the Elite Level Sports Marketing (ELSM)/National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Best of Brand Top 10 Power Rankings. The Boilermakers check in at No. 7 in the preseason edition of the 2013-14 rankings.

The Power Rankings are designed to highlight the programs that are most effectively building their brand via social media. Ten programs that were finalists in one of the top Best of Brand categories (Gold Standard, Masterful Mission, and Top Newcomer) in 2012-13 appear on the list. In addition, the top five all included teams that won at least one Best of Brand award a year ago.

Purdue was one of six finalists for the Gold Standard Best of Brand Award, which is regarded as the highest honor in the Best of Brand program. It highlights the college programs that have set a unique standard in marketing their programs in an innovative manner.

Heading into the 2013-14 season, the Boilermakers have close to 3,000 "likes" on Facebook, 4,800 followers on Twitter (@PurdueWrestling) and have had more than 49,000 views on YouTube. Head coach Scott Hinkel (@CoachHinkel) is nearing 1,300 followers on Twitter. Assistant coaches Pete Rogers (@PeteRogers3) and Chris Fleeger (@ChrisFleeger) are building their audiences, combining for nearly 700 followers.

A new set of Power Rankings will be released the first Monday of each month until April when the Best of Brand award category finalists will be announced.
