Practice on the Patio, Mackey Mayhem Set
Sept. 14, 2017

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A pair of unique events implemented last season are back on the docket for Purdue wrestling in 2017-18. Practice on the Patio is set to return to the South End Zone of Ross-Ade Stadium in October and a second edition of Mackey Mayhem will take place in February.

Practice on the Patio will take place two hours prior to the Purdue football game vs. Nebraska on Oct. 28. A ticket to the football is required for entry to Practice on the Patio and can be purchased here.

“The environment we had at last year’s Practice on the Patio was really fantastic, we had to do it again,” Purdue head wrestling coach Tony Ersland said. “We had a great turnout and our guys were excited to have the opportunity to workout on the South End Zone before a football game. They kept asking if we were going to be able to have Practice on the Patio again, so you know they enjoy getting out in a public space and showing casual fans how hard they work.”

Mackey Mayhem is scheduled for the final home dual of the season, a Big Ten Conference collision with Northwestern at 7 p.m. ET on Feb. 9. Last season the Boilermakers used a late surge to defeat Indiana 19-12 in the first dual held inside Mackey Arena since 2005.

“Mackey Arena is an incredible backdrop to showcase wrestling and the fact we are able to host this dual on Senior Night will make it all the more special,” Ersland said. “We received such a positive response to Mackey Mayhem last year, we felt like we could really add to it. We are excited to see the environment we can create with the crowd and especially with the new video boards.”

Purdue is 4-0 when wrestling in Mackey Arena since making Holloway Gymnasium its home in 1984-85. Three of those four opponents have been the Hoosiers, with Michigan State being the other.
