WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue Wrestling team announced its 2012-13 schedule on Thursday, slating 24 duals and three tournaments in addition to the 2013 NWCA National Duals, the 2013 Big Ten Championships and the 2013 NCAA Championships.
"We're excited about the way that this year's schedule came together," said Purdue head coach Scott Hinkel. "We have a lot of tough duals and tournaments lined up and the guys will get to see a few different parts of the country. In addition, we scheduled some solid home contests for our fans to see here in Holloway Gymnasium."
The Boilermakers open their second straight season at the Eastern Michigan Open, scheduled for Nov. 3, and they'll host Old Dominion and Missouri for the first home event of the season the following Saturday. They'll travel to consecutive multi-team events to close out November, heading to the Northern Illinois Duals and the Northeast Duals.
After traveling to Cedar Falls, Iowa for the Northern Iowa Open to start December, they'll welcome Southern Illinois Edwardsville and Iowa Western Community College to Holloway for a set of duals. They'll take a few weeks off for the winter holidays and come back with the 50th-Annual Midlands Championships at Northwestern University on Dec. 29-30.
The start of 2013 brings another rigorous Big Ten Conference schedule and the Boilermakers get things started on the road, heading to Michigan State, Iowa and Illinois. They come back to West Lafayette on Jan. 20 to host the two-time defending Big Ten and NCAA Champion Penn State Nittany Lions, and are set to host Wisconsin at Hinsdale High School in the Chicago-land area on Monday, Jan. 28. They head back to Evanston, Ill., to start February, but close out the conference schedule at home, hosting Michigan and Indiana on Feb. 3 and 11, respectively.
The Boilermakers were invited to their third-straight NWCA National Duals this season, and will head to one of four regional six-team events on Feb. 17. They'll close out the regular season on the road, making their first trip to Franklin and Marshall University in school history, where they'll battle the host Diplomats and Rider University.
The 2013 Big Ten Championships are set for nearby Champaign, Ill., on March 9 and 10, while this year's NCAA Championships will be held at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.
