WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -
Purdue wrestling will send a trio of freestyle competitors to the U.S. World Team Trials, set to take place from the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. Two Boilermakers, Griffin Parriott and Shawn Streck, will take to the mat Friday in junior action, followed by assistant coach Kendric Maple on the senior side Saturday.

Parriott and Streck are aiming for a spot on the U.S. Junior Freestyle World Team that will compete at the UWW Junior World Championships in Tampere, Finland, Aug. 1 to 6.

Parriott is coming off of a 70 kg title run at the UWW Junior Freestyle National Championships in April. Since 70 kg is not an UWW Junior World Championships weight class, the Purdue true freshman will wrestle at 66 kg in Lincoln. A third-place showing at 120 kg the UWW Junior Freestyle National Championships punched Streck's ticket to Lincoln.

Maple is looking to earn a spot on the U.S. Senior Freestyle World Team at 61 kg for the UWW Senior World Championships that will run Aug. 21 to 26 in Paris, France.

Maple has made a fiery return to freestyle. In his first tournament since 2015, Maple captured the 61 kg title at the U.S. Open Men's Freestyle National Championships in April. By virtue of his U.S. Open championship, Maple will be the top seed in the Challenge Tournament.
