WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Jonathan Marmolejo has signed his National Letter of Intent to wrestle at Purdue, becoming the sixth member of the Boilermakers' 2014-15 class. Marmolejo is projected to wrestle at 133 pounds.
Marmolejo, who hails from Carol Stream, Ill., is a product of Illinois high school wrestling powerhouse Glenbard North (3A). Marmolejo tallied a career record of 176-21 and was a four-time state qualifier with three podium finishes. In his final season with the Panthers, Marmolejo was the 126-pound runner-up and finished with a 44-2 mark. As a senior he was named a team captain and tabbed as the squad's Most Valuable Wrestler. As a junior wrestling at 120 pounds, he placed fifth at state and he was sixth at 126 as a sophomore.
Twice the Panthers were invited to compete in The Clash, a national high school dual-format wrestling tournament featuring 32 of the best teams held annually in Rochester, Minn. As a 103-pound freshman, Marmolejo was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Outside of the high school circuit, Marmolejo was a two-time ASICS/Vaughn Junior Greco-Roman All-American, placing fifth at 126 in 2013 and was the 120-pound runner-up in 2012. As a cadet in 2011, he placed sixth at 112 pounds for All-America honors.
Marmolejo joins fellow incoming freshmen Peter Andreotti, Jacob Aven, Mario Leveille, Austin McCloskey and Ben Thornton.
