ROSEMONT, Ill. - Eight Purdue wrestlers earned a preliminary seed for the 2014 Big Ten Wrestling Championships, the league office announced Monday. The University of Wisconsin will host the championships at the Kohl Center Saturday and Sunday.

The pre-seeds, as voted on by the conference’s coaches, rank the top eight wrestlers in five weight classes, along with all 12 starters in five weight classes due to the Big Ten receiving eight or more NCAA Championships qualifier allocations in those classes. Each team enters the championships with a seeded wrestler in the 133-, 157-, 165-, 197- and 285-pound weight classes.

Cashé Quiroga and Braden Atwood were tabbed at No. 4 at 133 and 197 pounds, respectively, earning the highest pre-seeds for the Boilermakers. Quiroga boasts a 13-5 record and is currently ranked 11th by TheOpenMat.com and 10th by InterMat. Of the three individuals listed ahead of the senior from Indianapolis, Ind., Quiroga has only faced top-seeded Tony Ramos of Iowa this season. Wisconsin’s Tyler Graff is the No. 2 pre-seed and David Thorn of Minnesota is the No. 3 pre-seed.

Atwood enters the Big Ten Wrestling Championships ranked 11th by both TheOpenMat.com and InterMat. He has faced all three grapplers pre-seeded in front of him: No. 1 Morgan McIntosh of Penn State, No. 2 Nick Heflin of Ohio State and No. 3 Scott Schiller of Minnesota.

Earning No. 7 pre-seeds at their respective weights were Camden Eppert and Danny Sabatello. Eppert owns a mark of 14-11 at 125 pounds, while Sabatello is 20-9 at 141 pounds. Brandon Nelsen (14-12) is the pre-seed No. 8 at 149 pounds. Alex Griffin (157) and Pat Robinson (165) are the No. 9 seeds. Rounding out the pre-seeds for Purdue is 285-pounder Alex White, who is No. 11.

A complete list of the pre-seeds can be found here. Coaches will review the pre-seeds at the seeding meeting scheduled for Friday at 12 p.m. CT with finalized brackets available thereafter.
