WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Thomas Wilson, who is ranked among the nation's top doubles players, is the newest addition to Purdue's tennis team after recently signing his National Letter of Intent.

Wilson will join the Boilermakers for the start of the 2008-09 season next fall.

"The doubles game is something that he understands well and has had much success with at the junior level," said head coach Tim Madden. "Thomas has natural abilities that allow him to adapt his game to what his opponents bring to competition. He is skilled with his movement in terms of quickness and agility. He has good hands which allows him to hold the ball on the strings for proper placement. He also has good instincts and vision which gives him an edge with anticipation skills."

A senior at San Antonio's Ronald Reagan High School, Wilson has won eight doubles titles in addition to five Texas sectional singles titles. He is among the nation's top 100 singles players in all divisions and recently reached the doubles quarterfinals at Winter Nationals.

Academically, Wilson is a member of the National Honor Society and maintains an 'A' average.

"Thomas has a good balance of social, athletic, and academic priorities," said Madden. "He has a disciplined training schedule on and off the courts and is an honor roll student. From the first time I met Thomas, I got a sense that he is a true team guy. He is committed to being his best and understands the importance of leadership and communication with his team."

Wilson's father, David, who serves as one of his head coaches, played varsity tennis for the Texas Longhorns in the early 1980's.

Wilson's older brother, Phillip, currently attends Baylor University.
